Beware The Underdog

Many people believe that “non-professionals” - students and stay-at-home moms, freelancers and fed-up corporate refugees - are nothing more than a novelty and are not capable of competing with the “professionals.” The Internet has helped to level the playing field and the tide is turning. They come from every corner of the globe and every walk of life; their talent and creativity have been proven and now they are actively engaged in creating the world of tomorrow - they just need the tools that let them do it. The tension evident between this growing creative movement and centuries of tradition will disrupt and define the creative industries for years to come. The video below is from our recent talk on this subject at the Chicago New Media Summit.

Interesting talk, a good place to forward all the nay-sayers too :)

AWESOME! I loved it and everything that was said is soooo true. Watch out for us! We underdogs are taking the design world by storm:)

You said it, lamtiff! Just because I am home with my kids and can’t go to a “real” job, doesn’t mean I can’t contribute something to the world. I love the internet. I love my computer and creative software. And I love cS for giving me a place to USE it.

Super talk - and nice entrepreneurial push-back to naysayers who claim that crowdsourcing contests (where work is done speculatively) will destroy the creative industry. The future is the creative who take entrepreneurial risk.

Great talk, I really enjoyed listening to that. I really enjoyed your well thought idea of your customers and how you celebrate them. A truly beautiful speech! :)

Very powerful presentation. You definitely have built strong arguments to counter the no-spec crowd. I quite like that you compare us designers to novelists and songwriters, very persuasive. I feel very lucky to be part of cS.

Thanks, everyone! Typecast - we’re quite proud of the creatives working on crowdSPRING and feel lucky to know all of you.
