The Power of Imagination Ross and Mike | May 14th, 2008
“Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited.
Imagination encircles the world.”– Albert Einstein
Creativity is not influenced by who you are, where you live or what you do. Creativity is not defined by job titles, age, experience or the size of a portfolio. Creativity encircles us all. The explosion of “user generated content” – from Threadless (www.threadless.com) to YouTube (www.youtube.com) to the explosion in the number of personal blogs – demonstrates that people from across the globe are looking for outlets for their creative talent.
In many fields, established professionals have a distinct edge over newcomers, outsiders, and those not formally trained in their chosen discipline. There are notable exceptions. Innocentive (www.innocentive.com) has proven that a global community of participants can solve some of the toughest R&D/technical problems facing companies today. iStockPhoto (www.istockphoto.com) has shown that non-professional photographers can succeed and compete with established professionals. Traditionally, when selecting a provider of creative services, we use equally traditional criteria to make our choice: What is their experience? Who are their other clients? What is their education? On crowdSPRING, none of that matters. When the focus is on the work, and only on the work – such as on Innocentive and iStockPhoto – everyone can compete on a level playing field. All that matters is the work itself. The free flow of creative ideas is at the heart of our community.
Let’s imagine together…
