Small Business Spotlight of the Week: Mobilotto

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Say goodbye to the days of purchasing a lotto ticket at the convenient store and hello to mobilotto. Based in Toronto, Canada, mobilotto is an application that now allows you to safely and securely purchase lotto tickets on your cell phone! The software only allows you to purchase lotto available in your area using location technology. And the best thing…? You’ll never lose your million dollar lotto ticket since it’s all stored in your account!

Mobilotto recently had a logo & stationary project on our site and the award went to cS username akela!

I got a chance to speak with Brandice from Mobilotto and she had some great information for entrepreneurs everywhere so take a look…

1.  How did you get things designed before crowdSPRING?

We are a startup so this was one of our first logo designs

2.  Why in the world did you decide to use crowdSPRING?!

Our Founder suggested it through a referral

3.  What’s the single best small biz resource that you’ve found (magazine, website, blog, etc.)?

For our industry I would have to say that www.lotteryinsider.com has been the most resourceful website.

4.  If your best friend told you they were going to start a business, what’s the ONE piece of advice you’d give them?

Hire the best!

Small Business Spotlight of the Week: YANA

Friday, May 28th, 2010

It’s the age-old toughest decision: what do you get someone when they’re struggling with a hardship or an uncertain time whether it be a death in the family, losing a job, getting deployed or returning home from the military, or even moving to a new place where they don’t know someone? Flowers? They only last so long. A card? Is that even enough…? Well, as some of you may have seen featured on our home page a couple of weeks ago, there’s a new company called YANA (You Are Not Alone) and this is the platform of their organization – being able to send someone a YANA shirt or other cool merchandise that delivers a supportive, positive message- that they are not alone no matter what they are going through and someone out there is thinking about them.

YANA was founded by Wayne Grover in March 2010, and set out on a mission to extend human compassion to everyone and let him or her know they are not alone. Wayne has struggled with his own hardships in life including cancer, divorce, and depression and what got him through it at the end of the day was knowing that he was not alone and knowing that people out there cared about him.

Wayne posted a project on crowdSPRING looking for YANA t-shirt designs and loved them so much he awarded an extra creative, going from five to six winners! These t-shirts will be up for sale soon and you can follow YANA at their website, Facebook, or Twitter.

I had a chance to ask Wayne some questions about starting a new organization and this is what he has to share…

1.  How did you get things designed before crowdSPRING?

Since YANA is a start-up, we never needed design work prior to our first project with crowdSPRING.  We considered agencies, specialized firms, and even my own doodling for our corporate logo but ultimately we went with crowdSPRING.  Since our experience with the corporate logo project was so successful, we have since submitted and completed a clothing (T-shirt design) project and will be using crowdSPRING for many future needs.

Small Business Spotlight Of the Week

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Every week we send out our crowdSPRING newsletter (subscribe to the right of this post) and at the bottom we give you an option to send us an email if you would like your small business to be featured in our upcoming news letters or blogs. Shortly after our first newsletter with our new website we received an email from Rays. Ray and his two partners are fashion designers from India launching their line and finding their way in the fashion industry. They’ve shown their line at a number of shows, including Chennai International Fashion.

Their label is “Radhika, Revathi, n Rays” and they’re doing everything they can to make their dreams come true. Check out their portfolio!

crowdSPRING is also a small business and we love to help other small business get noticed. We’re excited that our little company has reached people in the fashion industry in India – it’s crazy how many people you can touch simply being on the internet. :)

I had an opportunity to talk with Rays about a few things and this is what he had to share…

1.  How did you get things designed before crowdSPRING?

As we are designers ourselves… we have always preferred to do it ourselves… we do seek advice from experts if there is anything different to be designed..but at the end…it’s our work .

2.  Why in the world did you decide to use crowdSPRING?!

CS is a pool of boundless creativity . you ask for one idea and you get thousands…. something you might have never even dreamt of … possibilities are immense here …to design ..to get ideas and also to improve what i already know .

3.  What’s the single best small biz resource that you’ve found (magazine, website, blog, etc.)?

I feel magazines are the best as people tend to spend lots of time with magazines.. things might get away unnoticed while accessing websites or blogs as we don’t really spend much time on a particular page .

4.  If your best friend told you they were going to start a business, what’s the ONE piece of advice you’d give them?

i shall advise “doesn’t matter how good you are at your work…it s nothing until you know how to sell it  and unless others get to know what you’re doing “  :)
