In our 12 Questions blog series, we feature interviews with someone from the crowdSPRING community. For these interviews, we pick people who add value to our community – in the blog, in the forums, in the projects. Plainly – activities that make crowdSPRING a better community. Be professional, treat others with respect, help us build something very special, and we’ll take notice.
We’re very proud to feature Tin Ba?i? (crowdSPRING username: TinBacicDesign) today. Tin lives and works in Zagreb, Croatia.

1. Please tell us about yourself.
My name is Tin Ba?i?. I was born in a small country called Croatia, somewhere between central and southeastern Europe, with a 5.800 km long beautiful coast and 1.246 islands. I’m currently living and working in its capital Zagreb. I guess some of you, like many others, have never heard of my country and therefore as a designer I´m trying my best to promote it here
on crowdSPRING. As to my work, I have been employed as a full time graphic designer for about 5 years now and my expertise includes brand identity, illustrated logos and print design. Presently I am building up my skills on a daily basis, occasionally gathering some projects from freelance sites. I got fascinated with design back in high school, and this passion continues as I learn more, but more on that topic later on.
2. How did you become interested in design?
Even at my early age, I was always drawing something, anywhere and anytime, each day at home or even school. I always managed to find a little free space for some of my original ?piece of art?…so that after so much drawing and painting through primary school, it was only logical for me to enroll in the Secondary School of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Painting. Although my first choice was the Department of Graphic Design, I didn’t manage to get in. Right about that time when I was around fifteen, me and my brothers got our first computer. At first I was mostly just playing games, but after a while I began to study and work on some design programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Freehand. So eventually, as I had designed beginner logos, covers, etc. , I was more and more fond of it, even more than of drawing which, at that time, I liked the most. I think that that was the period when the turning
point occurred, namely the time when I decided to be more focused on graphic design rather than drawing and painting, which is still proving to be the right move. At least I think so.
3. Which of your designs are your favorites and why?
Each of my designs is special to me in its own way. But for certain, one of my favorites, the one I work with pleasure, is “A Tribute to Flor Kilah. It’s a hip-hop and breakdance festival which is held in early October every year in honor of the former best Croatian breakdancer who, unfortunately so, died in a car accident 5 years ago. I am honored to design everything for his festival, because that man was simply the best, not only as a dancer but also as a person. As for the crowdSPRING logos…I can say that “StoryChasers” was the funniest one I’ve had privilege to design lately. Maybe it’s because of those skinny legs or the satirical picture of a microphone as a journalist who yearns for a new juicy story. I might also like to single out another logo that I recently designed, called “Bold Thinking”, for one and only reason – the logo is actually a graffito and as a teenager I was always observing graffiti but never actually drew them (in my whole life I have only made around five sketches). So, I am very pleased with the logo/graffito, because in the end it turned out great.

We’re very proud to feature Raoul Camion (crowdSPRING username: Raoul_Camion) today. Raoul lives and works in Vielsalm, Belgium.

1. Please tell us about yourself.
I’m Raoul Camion (of course, it’s not my real name), I’m 40 years old and I live in Vielsalm, a (very) small city in the Belgium Ardennes with my wife Cindy, my little son of 9 years old, Toto, my two cats (one is a complete psychopath, he’s the Charles Manson of the cats) and all the other people who are living in the Ardennes too.
I started to work 20 years ago as an imagesetter operator (Linotronic). I then carried out several trades in the « traditional » photoengraving ( scanner operator, phototypesetter, …)
before working as a freelance graphic designer.

In the final installment of our exploration into our community we’ll continue to dive into work habits, this time focusing on how many entries Creatives contribute when they participate in a project and how much time they spend working on an entry. Every designer has differing work habits and each of you approaches a project in a different way; The two infographics below illustrate how you choose to participate, and how you manage your time.
Once again, we divided our designer community into our four largest groups: logo designers, web designers, print designers, and illustrators. This time the differences between the groups were not so wide; this graphic shows that each of these groups contributes at roughly the same level. When asked, “how many entries do you typically submit to any one project?” designers in each of the groups averaged between 3 and 4 entries.

When we asked designers to tell us, “on average, how much time do you spend preparing an entry to a project?” once again there was not a wide spread between the amount of time a Logo designer took compared to a Print designer, with 2.3 hours and 2.4 hours respectively.

A month or two ago we completed a rather extensive survey of our Creative community. Over 500(!) of our designers participated and the information we gathered was invaluable in helping us to understand who we are, what we do, and what matters most to us. We’ll be sharing this information with you over the next month or two and wanted to start today with a little infographic of some of the results. We’d love to hear your story, so please leave a comment and let us know your thoughts!

“I’m In Logo Love” is a new series on the crowdSPRING blog. Periodically, we’ll pick a logo we’d like to take home from a bar and tell you why. And if you think it’s a bit strange to have a crush on a cleverly designed logo, get in line – my mom has already lectured me on this topic. Today, we’ll look at the logo for The Fort Worth Zoo.
Fort Worth Zoo is the oldest zoo in Texas.

Background on The Fort Worth Zoo:
The Fort Worth Zoo was founded in 1909 with just a handful of animals, and is now a nationally ranked zoo with over 5,000 forms of wildlife. They are one of the biggest attractions in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, and have spent the last 10 years making huge renovations.
Why we think the Fort Worth Zoo logo design is hot:
For any trip to the zoo, the highlight is the big animals. The bears, the giraffes, and the elephants. Many zoos use an animal in their logo, but the Fort Worth Zoo uses a very clever version of an “f” and a “w” to create the elephant. The initials/elephant icon works well on its own and is still identifiable at a very small size. The logo is simple and whimsical. It has the right feel for a place where people go to enjoy themselves.
What do you think? Do you agree this is a clever design and does it make you want to take a walk on the wild side?

“I’m In Logo Love” is a new series on the crowdSPRING blog. Periodically, we’ll pick a logo we’d like to take home from a bar and tell you why. And if you think it’s a bit strange to have a crush on a cleverly designed logo, get in line – my mom has already lectured me on this topic. Today, we’ll look at the logo for Toblerone.
Toblerone is a Swiss chocolate company known for their triangle shaped candy bars.

Background on Toblerone:
Toblerone was started in Bern, Switzerland by Jean Tobler. His son took over the company, and in 1908, they introduced the bar with the famous triangle shape. “Toblerone” is a play on the names “Tobler” and “Torrone”, the Italian word for honey and almond nougat. In 2000, the Matterhorn became part of the official logo of Toblerone, and from then on was prominent on every Toblerone pack. (Sources Toblerone.com and Kraft Foods.)
Why we think the Toblerone logo design is hot:
First of all… it’s Chocolate. Mmmm. Second of all, a bear (symbol of the city of Berne, where Toblerone is produced) is hidden in the modern version of the Matterhorn mountain logo. The Matterhorn is a great symbol of Switzerland, and is said to possibly be the inspiration for the shape of the candy bar. Since learning of the hidden bear in the logo, I stare at the bar in the checkout line at the supermarket. If you still don’t believe Toblerone is hot… you should see the episode of Friends, where Joey can’t hide his longing for a giant bar brought home from the airport by Ross and Emily.
What do you think? Do you agree this is a clever design and does it make you want to eat some chocolate?

What if some of the world’s most respected artists, including Picasso, Monet, Dr. Seuss, Dalí, Van Gogh and 21 other famous artists were each asked to paint a letter of the English alphabet – in their own unique style? How would each of their letters look?
crowdSPRING’s Audree Rowe wrote and illustrated a fun book for kids and art lovers – Art and the Alphabet. Audree’s book contains fun facts about each artist, and a hand painted illustration of how each artist might have drawn or painted their letter.
Audree is looking for a publisher, so the book isn’t available for purchase (yet). But take my word – it’s awesome!

We’re very proud to feature Tiffany Reed (crowdSPRING username: iamtiff) today. Tiffany lives and works in Norfolk, Virginia, USA.

1. Please tell us about yourself.
Hello, party people! My name is Tiffany Reed, but you can just call me Tiff (as you can see from my username). Getting a chance to answer CrowdSpring’s “12 Questions” is so exciting!
I’m a 25 year old starving artist turned graphic designer, turned web designer. Whew! I wonder what I’m going to morph into next! I’m a Navy brat that was born in Japan and has lived in various places along the East Coast. I now live and work in a small cave in Norfolk, Virginia and I’m hopelessly addicted to reality tv (fist pump!).
2. How did you become interested in design?
After getting BFA in Drawing & Design, I needed to make a living and, well, selling my artwork wasn’t working too well. So after a failed t-shirt business, I decided to give graphic design a try which I had really been doing all along, and began making logos for my church, friends and family. Those projects led to other projects through word of mouth. I started studying as much as I could along the way and became very passionate about the industry and community. Then I stumbled upon crowdSPRING one day while searching for design competitions, and the rest is history.

We’re very proud to feature Tiffanie Davis (crowdSPRING username: TMDCreations) today. Tiffanie lives and works in Hollywood, Florida, USA.

1. Please tell us about yourself.
My name is Tiffanie Davis (TMD Creations on crowdSPRING). I am 32 years old and was born in the Sunshine State in the City of Hollywood. I have a BA in Art/Graphic Design which I received at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). After graduating FAU, I enrolled in the US Army and
served 4 years. My husband of 7 years, Keyno and I have a 3 year old daughter name Kayla.
2. How did you become interested in design?
I started drawing in elementary school. I entered numerous contests, consistently finishing 1st or 2nd. It was not until I entered high school that I gained an interest in Graphic Design, where I realized that I could combine my love for art with using a PC. This was great because until that point, I did not want to become a full-fledged artist because I have always thought that art was not appreciated unless the artist is famous or deceased.

We’re very proud to feature Maximilian (crowdSPRING username: maximiliandesign) today. Max lives and works in Jacksonville, Florida, USA.

1. Please tell us about yourself.
Crikey! Who, …ME?
For real? Why me?
Is this a joke? You’re just gonna make me write all this stuff, and then laugh at me when I send it in, right?
Wow. I am … hmmm, … flattered. Yes, flattered!
Well, OK… here it goes. But be warned.
My guess is, if you are still reading this, you are either:
A.) drawn in by my devilishly handsome looks in the picture, or
B.) bored senseless to the degree that you’ll do almost anything if it just kills a few minutes of your day!
Alright, so B.) it is! I thought so.
What can I say about myself you don’t already NOT know? After all, I am a virtual unknown in the crowdSPRING community, but I guess that’s about to change, eh? Muu ha ha haaaar!
How does a central European expatriate (yes, that would be ME) end up in one of the dullest cities in the USA (yes, that would be Jacksonville, Florida)? Long story, but I began my exodus to the US as an exchange student when I was still a spring chicken (albeit not a crowdSPRING chicken, which is what I am today!). After my year as exchange student, one thing led to another – I came back for college (in West Virginia of all places), got married, got a job, moved around a couple times – you know, the usual things people do. And despite my wacky self, the US Government actually allowed me to stay. Indefinitely. I guess they figured it’s best to keep me close by, so they can keep an eye on me! Just in case.
