+1 for mailchimp because it's *fun* to use. +1 for their live customer support.

*Disclaimer: I've only used mailchimp for email marketing and have so far used them to track one email campaign for beta software signups. Using it for wisedameapp.com.

We use http://www.freeconferencecall.com/ - it allows up to 96 callers for 6 hours and will record the conversation if you want - all for free.

We also use basecamp - and RELY on it. It's a great tracking tool, keeps everyone on the team in the loop and provides a great repository for all information on a project by project level.

One other resource to check out - timebridge.com. Great for scheduling calls or meetings in environments where everyone has busy schedules and may not be in the same time zone. Easy to use and free as well.

File sharing tools should be added to the list.
Whether it's cloud or p2p.

For non-tech savvy business users there are applications like Zapr (www.zapr.com) that makes it pretty easy to turn your desktop/notebook into an FTP.

My friend and I were recently talking about technology, and how integrated it has become to our daily lives. Reading this post makes me think back to that discussion we had, and just how inseparable from electronics we have all become.

I don't mean this in a bad way, of course! Ethical concerns aside... I just hope that as technology further innovates, the possibility of uploading our brains onto a digital medium becomes a true reality. It's a fantasy that I daydream about almost every day.

Great list!

I also recommend:

1) Using your regular e-mail (e.g. you@yourdomain.com) but setting it up so it sends a CC of any message received to a Gmail backup ---- we do this for any messages sent to our work e-mail --> a copy gets forwarded to the Gmail "deep storage" .... so we can always go into "deep storage" if ever needed.

2) How do you all handle phone calls? I've been using RingCentral for some time now and think it's pretty good --- you can log in to an online dashboard to send outgoing phone calls, you can do fax by e-mail, and you can check messages online --- it also sends you an e-mail of any voice message. You can point your extensions to various different phones and organize hours of operation and what kind of answering message to play, as well.

3) How do you handle postal mail? We use Earth Class Mail, which is a digital mail delivery: they scan any incoming postal mail, then I log in to my dashboard, review, and have the piece of mail scanned, shredded, recycled, or forwarded via postal mail directly to me. Good if you have multiple people around multiple locations or travel frequently.

4) How do you handle online payments? We've been using PayPal for some time but I'm always looking into other ways to accept credit card payments online.

Great list!

I also recommend:

1) Using your regular e-mail (e.g. you@yourdomain.com) but setting it up so it sends a CC of any message received to a Gmail backup —- we do this for any messages sent to our work e-mail –> a copy gets forwarded to the Gmail “deep storage” …. so we can always go into “deep storage” if ever needed.

2) How do you all handle phone calls? I’ve been using RingCentral for some time now and think it’s pretty good — you can log in to an online dashboard to send outgoing phone calls, you can do fax by e-mail, and you can check messages online — it also sends you an e-mail of any voice message. What about small businesses looking to bring in professional speakers to talk about business skills, marketing, trends in the economy, motivation, etc.? Have you checke out SpeakerMatch? It's like the ebay of finding speakers. www.speakermatch.com

These are fantastic resources. I didn't see any conference call services listed up there. If your looking for a RELIABLE service check out www.myconferenceline.com.
