Stop Me If You’ve Heard This One Before… Kevin | May 1st, 2009

So a guy walks into crowdSPRING…

…that’s all I’ve got so far. Still working on it.

Greetings and salutations, crowdSPRINGERs! Kevin DeLury here, doing all the new guy stuff that new guys are wont to.

So far my time here has consisted of scuttlework: scrubbing the floors, polishing ping pong balls and re-doing the grip tape on the paddles. Jerome insists it’s a normal part of the job, but I’m not entirely convinced. Also, I get the sneaking suspicion he’s French.

At any rate, I’m looking forward to getting to know you folks out there and help with any questions you may have. But now I need your help. See, Jerome has his handle as “The French Guy” (there’s that sneaking suspicion again), Jaclyn got the moniker “Snow White” and I…well, I got nothing.

In the spirit of the community, I’m asking you fine folks to name me, as it were. I can only be “The New Guy” for so long before I’m, er…uh…not.  So let’s get to naming!

Looking forward to meeting Kevin in person…

My recommendation for a nickname is (drumroll…)

“The Hipster” – I mean this with upmost respect!

    See you guys soon!

  • Kevin

hipster?! yikes! does this mean i have to go out and get some kanye shutter shades and grow ironic facial hair? or is that not hip anymore? and is it hip to be unhip if you know it’s already unhip? so many questions…

  • ArtbyAudree

    Hi Kevin,

I don’t know about a name for you… but I can’t help but notice a similarity between you and Jerome. TWO guys with dark hair, glasses, and a beard? Good thing he has the accent, or they might have trouble telling you apart. I guess the tattoos can set you apart as well…

I also look forward to meeting you soon – along with Snow White and Zebra Girl.

    Audree

Wow! Thanks for all the love guys!

@artbyaudree: Yes, two bearded guys with glasses on customer service could get bit confusing. And yes, the tattoos and accents help to tell us apart. But the biggest differentiating factor is my uncanny dancing ability. I don’t like to brag, but you don’t save the local youth center from foreclosure by way of a dance off without some fancy footwork. true story!

@lisa: I can always count on you to come through with endearing (albeit embarassing) names. It’s like having your mom interrupt your anti-establishment punk band’s practice to let you now she made pizza rolls.

@ant: Avenged Kevinfold?! Brilliant! And speaking of dipset, get ready for the new Cam’ron may 12th! I’m stoked!

    My suggestion is:

    Grizzly Atoms

  • jeffportaro

How about “Yosef” since he’s from Boone. I’m a fellow ASU grad myself.

  • greggpayne

Since you’re the new go-fer, and you have that fuzzy face with the cute incisors, how about Gopher. Or “The Goph” for short. I think it will be a hit with the babes, and besides, Gomer and Beaver have already been taken.

  • mrdj1970

    I deem you you:

    OBI KEVNOBI

    Or

    Mr. Do It All

    RACK ME! I am out!

  • Luis

From your expression on the “video freeze” i found a similar expression on “Steve” American Dad’s Character

okay okay okay, the freeze frame on this thing is not exactly the most flattering of images. i get it. thanks for all your wonderful input out there, folks :)

the go-fer or gopher (you can get creative with it) sounded nice until i really mulled it over. i think the further i stay away from any association with a small burrowing rodent, the better.

right now grizzly atoms is front runner if only for the strange mixture of beardocity, the slight nod to atom and his package and because i’ve been called that in passing before.

i also had someone write into me today and just call me “the tattooed guy.” it’s simple, it’s easy to remember…we might be onto something here.

furthermore, what does anyone know about legally changing one’s name? because every day i am not legally called obi kevnobi is a day wasted.

this game is awesome! keep ‘em coming!

  • Josh

Well, I think you have a few things that set you apart…

    1. Your Gauges or Ear Rings – good name play off those are: “The Ringer”
    2. Obviously your tattoo’s, so my suggestion is: “Tat-Man”
    3. Since your tat’s have a pirate theme going and you say gnarly a lot, perhaps: “The Gnarly Buc”

    Good luck at crowdSPRING!

I was just having fun with the whole Gopher deal.

    How about DeLurious

    You know, I’m DeLurious, he’s DeLurious…

See, you’re already conditioned to respond to it.

  • Kevin

uncle buck: great movie or greatest movie?

also, i promise i’ll try to stop using gnarly so much. it’s just so versatile and…gnar…AH I CANT STOP.

These are excellent suggestions, folks. It’s gonna be like picking my favorite avail song or child or something.

Actually, I was always known as “Kevy D,” like Heavy D and the Boyz.Maybe I should stick with that?

  • Josh

definitely a great movie! gotta luck john candy! no worries on the word gnarly, not enough of us use it anymore! keep it up, gnar, gnar!
