Short Interview – Chris Detmer Ross | February 12th, 2009
You’ve talked with Chris in the forums and you’ve seen some of his great work on our site. Chris was making coffee this morning (either Chris or I make the coffee in the morning) and I took the opportunity to ask him a few questions.
Interview with Chris Detmer, one of crowdSPRING’s front-end developers from Ross Kimbarovsky on Vimeo.
I’m a fan of Chris’s music. But things get a bit complicated when it comes to music (either that or Chris has multiple personalities). Chris is actually James Collin (his musical alter ego). Lucky for us, we only pay one of them!
Here’s the video Chris mentioned in the interview:
Leave Chris a note and let him know what you think about his music (or his work on the site)…

Cool video, Chris! Kind of haunting tune, like something you start humming when out walking (I usually end up silentScreaming a bossa-esque thing when I do the walk thing
)
Ross. Impromptu interviews. Cool and all that. But please, clip a tie-mike on the next victim, yeah? This is the second interview I hardly hear anything of what the interviewee is saying…
(seriously though, a clip-on would help because your questions and the victim’s answers are way different in level. Oh, and try out iMovie09′s anti-shake feature! I hear it works really well! :devilish grin: )
/*ducks, weaves, runs*/
Fred – we’re using a Flip HD, so no external microphone possible.
But I’ll look for ways we can improve the audio. As for video – I was going for a Woody Allen look…

Cool Music, Chris!. I like the bit with the self-playing keyboard. Will it work if I try playing it on my son’s Jungle-themed toy electronic keyboard? Hmm…
fredK – Thanks. I guess I’ve never thought of that one as haunting, but I’m pickin’ what you’re layin’ down. And yes, we need to figure out a better way to capture interviewee audio. I have the Flip Ultra, and unfortunately there is no external mic input. I guess we could get fancy, record the audio separate and then sync it up in iMovie. Maybe we’ll remaster these first interviews and normalize the audio, just for you.
AtbyAubree – Thank you. Yes, the bit with the keyboard is playing the actual notes in the song. In fact that keyboard is the one I had as a kid. I love that thing. You can also download the entire track for free from my site (http://jamescollin.com/music.php). All of my music is free and open source.

Like the tune Chris, It kinda had a Royksopp or Apparat vibe.
davidharris – Good ear! I love Röyksopp and Apparat, though, truth be told, that track was influenced primarily by The Knife.

Coolissimo!!!!!!!
hi
Neat. Thanks for sharing.
I like your music Chris. Reminded me, the beginning at least, of the song ‘Montreal’ by Kaki King. It’s haunting quality, beauty. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9loABWtT8c) And I really like the use of B&W footage. Good luck with both, current job and passion for music.
